Let’s Getaway - Another Day in Paradise

There’s something magical about the long nights, sunbeams, and cool breeze of summer. One thing's for sure, we all look forward to planning the perfect summer vacation! Whether it’s with our girlfrans, bros, bae, or a getaway with our family, we can’t wait for the summer turn ups!

Here is a hidden gem I want to share that a group of friends and I discovered in the  Bahamas. We steered away from the most popular spots of Nassau and Atlantis and sought out for adventure on the small island of Georgetown in the district of Exuma. This will make for a perfect, relaxed, yet breathtakingly beautiful summer vacation.

The experience was one of a kind, as we enjoyed our time riding scooters from one end of the island to the other, letting the fresh Bahama breeze hit our face. With a small, eco-friendly island such as Exuma we found that to be more efficient and enticing than renting a vehicle as we are more inclined to do on vacations.

We decided to rent an Airbnb for our lodging which was a great accommodation for 5 friends. The house was very modern and gave us exclusive access to the beach that came with kayaks! We were able to take a half day boat trip and visit pig beach to swim with the pigs, iguana island, and starfish island.

The boat ride served alcoholic beverages throughout the tour and our guide even took a dive in the ocean and caught a fresh piece of conch to make us an awesome salad! Our trip was a short weekend getaway so we didn’t have enough time to swim with sharks, an excursion that was on my bucket list, but it didn’t take away from me marking off some other cool experiences.

While nightlife is not the islands main attraction, no Exuma trip is complete without a visit to The Fish Fry! The Fish Fry provided us low key, authentic and memorable fun. It is as much for locals as for tourists and is essential to the Exuma experience. It is a collection of more than 10 little restaurants and bars serving fresh grilled and fried seafood, meats and other tasty Bahamian dishes. This is great when traveling with a group of people because they provide many options to satisfy everyone's taste bud. We stopped to eat at a restaurant called “Charlies” and ended up having an awesome night of drinks,  laughter, karaoke, dancing and fun. The staff let us pick songs from the old school to the new school music of Cardi B’s -Bodak Yellow, TLC- No scrubs, Snoop Doggs Gin and Juice and Drop it like it’s hot!

Exuma Island is one of my most highly recommended inexpensive getaways! I also recommend to stay longer to enjoy all the wonderful attractions Georgetown has to offer.
